Facility Inspections
The primary reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection score. Its inspection grade was far better than its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave it a grade of A+. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This nursing home was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to resident safety or health. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also received a favorable long-term care score. As a matter of fact, we gave it a B in this area, which happens to be one of our better. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 99.72527 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. With 1.94 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home is close to average in this area.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of C in this category. Our nursing score is primarily tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 2.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally a good indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed was short-term care, turned out to be this facility's worst category. We gave this facility a D in this area. This really is one of the few weak points in a very solid profile. In the category of short-term care, we strive to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Unfortunately, this facility was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the staffing figures we looked at. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients that returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 44.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
