Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home received an excellent inspection report. Consequently, it received one of our highest scores in that category with an A. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with higher scores in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. It does not appear that we have deficiency counts for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its top-shelf resume, this nursing home also excelled in our short-term care area. In fact, we gave it a score of A- for that category. Short-term care grades are often employed to assess a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to offer highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we assessed in this category is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home is also strong in the category of long-term care, where it was awarded a score of B+. It performed better than most facilities in this area. Facilities that receive this type of score in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are well cared for. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 97.12794 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the final category we scored, this nursing home was awarded a very favorable grade of B+ in our nursing category. With this score, the facility rounded out an elite report card. The nursing score consists of a handful of data points, however, the primary consideration is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility excelled in these areas, with excellent scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home provides.
