Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received a very impressive grade in inspections. Inspections turned out to be its best category. In that category, we gave this nursing home an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively minor. While this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple relatively minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also performed well in the category of short-term care, where it received a score of A-. Only a select group of facilities performed better in this area. In computing our short-term care ratings, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to devise a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. It doesn't look like this nursing home provided information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. The last datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 5.8 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality
To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Our nursing grade focuses on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of skill of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility Washington in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a system of turning a resident even once per day.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we analyzed was long-term care, in which this facility was given a B. Believe it or not, this was this facility's worst category. A facility is doing something right when it's worst score still beats out most other facilities. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. Once we concluded our assessment of the quantity of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 99.242424 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia is too frequently a deadly condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
