Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an elite inspection score. Its inspection score was far better than its overall score. In our inspections category, we gave it an A+. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Additionally, we gave this nursing home a B in our short-term care category. This happens to be one of our more favorable grades. In computing our short-term care grades, we analyze a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This category is generally a solid assessment of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this nursing home provided data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 6.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next most favorable area we awarded this facility in any area came in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of C. In our long-term care assessment, we focus on the quantity of services provided by a nursing home, along with some qualitative statistics. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 93.33333 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which happens to be a few points less than we were hoping for but still a decent figure. Nevertheless, this nursing home excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

This nursing home's worst category is nursing, which is the final category we assessed. Sadly, it received an F for this area. Despite several solid scores in other areas, this score is still concerning so we felt obligated to make sure you are aware. When determining our nursing ratings, we look at both staffing levels and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home offered only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is well below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing scores. This place fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
