Facility Inspections
The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an elite inspection score. Its inspection score was far better than its overall score. In our inspections category, we gave it an A. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, we gave this facility a B in our short-term care category. This is one of our more impressive scores. Our short-term care grades are likely most meaningful for residents requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. It does not look like this facility provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, this facility's third highest score is long-term care. However, with a grade of D in this area, it still performed relatively badly. Facilities that don't score well in long-term care often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in some of the areas of routine personal care we assessed. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 93.79845 percent of its patients. This is slightly less than we expected but still a respectable figure. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
Nurse Quality
The final category we assessed is nursing, which turned out to be this facility's worst category. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this area, which is certainly concerning. The nursing score considers many factors. The most heavily weighted variable is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This nursing home offered only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is well below average. Unfortunately, this nursing home also had terrible scores in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its weak nursing hours. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers. This facility was at more than twice the national average in this metric.
