Long-term Care Quality
Although we did not rate this nursing home favorably overall, we want to point out its relatively favorable long-term care rating this year. We gave it a B+ in this category, which was much better than its overall grade. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure patients are kept in good health. After we finished assessing the quantity of nursing care, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 98.93617 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is often a deadly illness for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Facility Inspections
We actually gave this nursing home a very solid grade in the area of inspections as well. In fact, we awarded it a B- in this category. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Nurse Quality
We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. Nursing scores are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This nursing home performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these metrics to be measures of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we analyzed is short-term care. This facility was given a poor grade of F in this area. Short-term care ratings are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. With a score of this caliber for this area, we weren't shocked to discover this facility was well below average in two of the key staffing areas we focus on. The facility offered substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
