One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ long-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 98.545456 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. The last statistic we assessed is the facility's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this facility had 2.5 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.

The next category we looked at was inspections, where this facility also received an A+ grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category typically have very few severe deficiencies. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category. Our nursing score assesses a handful of datapoints, but the main one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place Texas in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving a patient more often.

Historical

In the final area, we gave this facility an A+ for our short-term care rating. This topped off a very impressive report card. Our short-term care ratings are crucial for prospective residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, we weren't able to track down information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The final datapoint we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. It was above average in this area with 53.2 percent of its patients returning home.
