Facility Inspections

Grade: B

Although we were not complementary of this facility's overall performance, it did receive an impressive inspection report this year with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that category with a grade of B. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this facility's more impressive category grades was in the area of long-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a B. It actually fared better than most nursing homes in this area. For residents looking for a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. One of the datapoints we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 80.19481 percent of its residents. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, at least this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

We were stunned to find that this facility also excelled in the category of nursing. In fact, we awarded it an D for that category, which is one of our best grades. Our nursing rating analyzes the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of licensure of those nurses as well as the number of hours spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This place fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last category we analyzed is short-term care, proved to be this facility's weakest category. We awarded this facility a grade of D in this category. Our short-term care grades are arguably most important for individuals requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically utilizes more skilled nursing services. This includes not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Given its abysmal grade in this category, we weren't surprised to learn this nursing home offers significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most nursing homes. The last item we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.4 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.
