Registered Staff Hours
Although we were not complementary of this facility's overall performance, it did receive an impressive inspection report this year with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that category with a grade of B. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
We also ended up giving this facility a fairly respectable grade in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B-. Nursing scores are primarily tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next most favorable area is short-term care. We gave it a grade of C in this category. This is basically a middle of the road score in this category. In our short-term care assessment, we attempt to create a valuable barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at the nursing home's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The key is determining what bearing this had on the quality of care. The final metric we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 4.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the next category, this facility received a respectable long-term care grade of C. Our long-term care ratings are more critical for residents requiring more traditional services related to activities of daily living. After we finished looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. We were optimistic to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 95.41667 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
