Facility Inspections
The main reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it received an elite inspection grade. In fact, its inspection score was far superior to its overall score. In our inspections category, we gave it an A+. Inspection ratings are tied to items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this area tend to have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Another strength of this facility is its impressive score in long-term care. We gave it one of our more favorable scores in that category, with a score of A. For patients seeking a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 89.85507 percent of its residents. This is a few points below what we anticipated but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
Moving on to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing rating. We gave this facility an D. There are a number of datapoints included in this grade. Most of these factors relate to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the fourth category, this facility really did not perform very well. Due to a very poor grade of F in short-term care, this was this facility's weakest category. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This rating is typically a reliable measure of the facility's rehabilitation services. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
