We want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility really outperformed its overall grade in the category of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best scores in that area with an A. Our inspection ratings are based on several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this category have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

We also awarded this nursing home a positive grade in long-term care. This facility earned a B in this category, which is one of our higher grades. When facilities receive this type of grade in long-term care it is a good sign for resident care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 97.161575 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia tragically can be a dangerous condition for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

The next category we looked at is short-term care, where this facility was awarded a C in this category. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This grade is frequently a reliable measure of a facility's rehabilitation services. Unfortunately, this facility was below average in terms of its level of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. The last item we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.4 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

The last area we looked at was nursing, which was this facility's weakest category. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F in this area, which is clearly very disappointing. Nursing grades are heavily correlated with quantity of nursing care available. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To pair with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility.
