Registered Staff Hours
Long-term Care Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ long-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Facilities that excel in this category tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a reliable method to minimize negative health outcomes for the nursing home population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Facility Inspections
Adding to this nursing home's impressive resume, we gave this facility an A- for inspections. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are quite minor. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality
Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category. In determining a facility's nursing rating, we assess the quantity of hours nurses spend with patients and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place California in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a system of moving a patient even once per day.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we scored was short-term care, in which this nursing home was awarded a B. While this wound up being its poorest category score, this is nevertheless an above average rating. Short-term care ratings are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a broad spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. It doesn't look like this facility submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
