Facility Inspections
This nursing home received a quality overall grade as described above, but we especially would like to emphasize its excellent inspections in recent years. We gave it an A in this category. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple relatively minor dings are not the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. This proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of A-. When computing a facility's nursing rating, we weigh the quantity of hours nurses are seeing residents as well as the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a policy of moving patients even once per day.

Long-term Care Quality
In addition, this facility also was given favorable long-term care scores in our assessment. Indeed, we awarded it one of our more favorable scores in that area, with a grade of B+. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are well cared for. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 99.83137 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we scored proved to be this facility's worst category. However, even in its weakest link we still gave it an acceptable grade of C for short-term care. In calculating our short-term care grades, we scrutinize the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This rating is considered to be a meaningful measure of the facility's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 2.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
