In addition to receiving a great overall score, this facility really excelled in the category of nursing, where it received a grade of A. We looked at the levels of nurses employed by the facility, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses were with residents, in computing our score in this category. This nursing home provides 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This facility fared well in some of the quality measures we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented with better nursing care.

This nursing home also excelled in inspections, where it received a grade of B+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively insignificant. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.

This nursing home also was awarded a favorable grade in our short-term care category. We gave this facility a better than average grade of B in that area. In the category of short-term care, we strive to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. The final datapoint we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 44.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home permanently.

The next area we graded is long-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an F in this area, which is a very poor score. This is obviously a significant concern. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids. After looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. Unfortunately, this facility vaccinated just 86.78414 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had just 1.47 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.
