Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To pair with a strong overall grade, we gave this nursing home an A+ for our inspection category. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area tend to have few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also gave this nursing home a grade of A for our short-term care score. In the area of short-term care, we strive to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. We weren't able to locate information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The last metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. When computing our nursing scores, we assess both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This facility provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next area we looked at is long-term care, where this facility received a B-. Even though this wound up being its worst category grade, this is still not a terrible score. With our long-term care rating, we focus on the volume of services provided by a nursing home, along with a handful of qualitative measures. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is a very solid datapoint. This place keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
