Nurse Quality

Grade: A

On top of receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home really excelled in the area of nursing, where it received an A. There are numerous factors included in this grade. Most of these factors reflect the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also gave this nursing home a solid grade in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of B-. For long-term care residents, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. Unfortunately, this nursing home vaccinated just 85.435165 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Fortunately, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next most favorable category we awarded this nursing home in any category came in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a B-. Short-term care grades are typically used to score a facility's rehabilitation services To offer high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have higher levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. The final item we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

The last category we assessed is inspections. This nursing home did not receive favorable government inspections in recent years. We gave it an F in this category. This pulled down this facility's overall grade significantly. With facilities that received this bad of an inspection rating, we recommend scrutinizing any severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This particular facility was hit with a category J through K deficiency, which are among the worst categories of deficiencies. These categories mean that inspectors uncovered a deficiency which places resident health or safety in immediate danger. Finally, we want to point out that this nursing home received large government fines of over $100,000. This usually indicates that a nursing home's poor performance spanned several years.
