Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a decent short-term care grade this year. We gave it a B- in that category. In our short-term care category, we endeavor to create a fair gauge for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze the facility's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Nurse Quality

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an C. In determining a nursing home's nursing rating, we weigh the number of hours nurses spend with patients as well as the level of skill of those nurses. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, although this facility got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of our quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this metric.

This nursing home received a grade of just D in the area of inspections. Inspection grades weigh many items on the facility's inspection reports. When you find too many deficiencies on the inspection reports, this is typically the worst sign. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to the well being of residents. This particular facility was hit with 7 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we found is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they caused a risk to resident health or safety. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.

Long-term Care Quality

The final category we scored was long-term care, where this facility received an abysmal grade in this area as well. We gave it an F for this category, which is obviously somewhat alarming. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means the nursing home didn't perform well in our quality measures relating to patient care. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. We were concerned by the fact that this facility vaccinated just 86.875 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
