Registered Staff Hours
Facility Inspections
Although we were not high on this place overall, we awarded it a B+ for our inspections category. This grade is much more impressive than the nursing home's overall grade. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. It is typically best to avoid nursing homes that had too many deficiencies. While this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's second best area was its short-term care score, where it was awarded a B-. Short-term care ratings are based on a facility's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the typical facility. The hope is that this does not adversely impact the quality of care. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Long-term Care Quality
Our third area we graded is long-term care, where this facility received an F. In a long-term care environment, the primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. Once we finished looking at the volume of nursing care, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. We were optimistic to find that this facility vaccinates 99.56332 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
The next category we scored is nursing. This nursing home was given a poor grade of F in that category. There are quite a few factors within this area. Most of the data points reflect nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident daily. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. These statistics pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating quite a bit.
