In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this facility performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. Our inspection grades are based on items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this category have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Contributing to this nursing home's list of accomplishments, it also was awarded a very favorable long-term care score. We gave them an impressive strong of A in this area. When facilities receive this type of grade in long-term care it is typically a good sign for patient care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 99.545456 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is much higher than most nursing homes. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Turning to the category of nursing care, this facility didn't perform quite as well in this area as some of the categories discussed above. Nevertheless, a grade of B- in this category is by no means a bad score. Our nursing rating considers several subcategories. The most heavily weighted variable is the amount of time nurses spend with residents. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a low total compared to most other nursing homes. Lastly, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place.

This facility's least impressive category was short-term care, which is the final category we assessed. For this area, we awarded this nursing home a D. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to grade a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. Unfortunately, we learned that this facility offers less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 2.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
