Based on our assessment, this nursing home has quite a bit going for it. On top of earning a strong overall score, this facility fared even better in our inspections category which is based on the facility's recent government inspection reports. In fact, we awarded it an A for that area, which is one of our highest grades. Our inspection scores are based on several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility really excelled in the area of long-term care, where it received a score of A-. Not many facilities performed better in this category. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. One of the factors we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. This is a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the aged 65 and up population. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. With 1.81 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this place is just about middle of the road in this area.
Short-term Care Quality
Additionally, this facility also was awarded favorable short-term care grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our stronger scores in that category, with a grade of B. In computing our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. This rating is frequently a reliable assessment of a facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents that eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 43.9 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.
