Registered Staff Hours
On top of receiving a great overall score, this facility also earned top notch government inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our best scores in that category, with an A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being quite insignificant. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, this nursing home also received favorable short-term care grades this year. Indeed, we gave them one of our better grades in that area, with a score of B+. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Long-term Care Quality
Turning to an additional strength for this nursing home, we gave them one of our more positive grades in our long-term care category as well, with a grade of B+. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. After considering the quantity of nursing care, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 99.58159 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a life threatening illness for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility doesn't take any chances. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
The final area we graded was nursing. We gave this facility one of our better grades in this area, with a B. This nursing home proved to be relatively strong across the board. We scrutinized the levels of nurses working for the facility, in addition to the number of hours those nurses were with residents, in calculating our rating in this area. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning residents at least once a day.
