Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility received a quality overall grade as described above, but we especially want to emphasize its excellent government inspections in recent years. We gave it an impressive grade of A in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively insignificant. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also received an impressive long-term care score. In fact, we gave it an above average score of B+ in this area. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure patients are well cared for. After assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 88.16568 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which happens to be slightly below what we were hoping for but still a respectable percentage. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, we were pleased to find facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. Nursing grades are tied to quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving a patient even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The next area we looked at was short-term care, in which we awarded it a favorable grade of B. This nursing home truly did not have any weak areas. Our short-term care grade is generally used to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To have high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last statistic we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
