Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While this nursing home's overall grade was decent, it really fared well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our best scores. Our inspection scores are tied to items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home received its second best category grade in the area of long-term care. We awarded this nursing home a grade of B- in this category, which is a respectable score. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. We were concerned by the fact that this nursing home vaccinated only 66.806725 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Fortunately, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's next most favorable area is short-term care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of C. Our short-term care ratings are important for patients looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of skilled nursing services. This includes a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The final category we rated is nursing, which turned out to be a weak spot for this nursing home. We gave this facility a D for our nursing category. There are a host of subcategories included in this category. Many of these data points relate to levels of nurse staffing. This place averaged a meager 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is not a very impressive figure. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This facility performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
