Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this nursing home earned near flawless inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this area. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Unfortunately, we were not able to track down deficiency data for this facility. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Contributing to its strong assessment, this nursing home also received a dominant long-term care score, with a grade of A. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.7 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to another strength for this nursing home, we gave them one of our better grades in our short-term care category as well, with a grade of B+. Short-term care grades are generally used to assess a facility's performance with rehabilitation In order to have highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to feature better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. This nursing home performed much better in the final datapoint we assessed in this area, which was the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. It fared as well as just about any nursing home in North Carolina in this area with 61.3 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, at most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.
Nurse Quality
The last category we scored is nursing. This facility received a strong nursing rating in our assessment, with a grade of C. Even though this isn't as elite as some of its other category grades, this is nevertheless a decent rating in this category. Our nursing rating consists of several components, but the most important one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also weighed some quality-based assessments. This facility fared well in some of the quality measures we assessed. In terms of the percentage of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home outpaced the national average.
