Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively minor. This place was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This indicates that the government inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home truly excelled in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed more favorably in this area. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 81.93916 percent of its residents. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, at least this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality
This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. When determining a nursing home's nursing score, we assess the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents as well as the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we rated is short-term care, which was this nursing home's least impressive category. We gave this facility a grade of D in this category. However, we would not judge this facility solely on one bad category, since it earned many impressive grades in other areas. Our short-term care scores are presumably more meaningful for patients requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates more highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not only nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. It looks like this nursing home was subpar in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the data we considered. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
