Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.
Long-term Care Quality
On the list of its many dominant scores, this nursing home received an excellent long-term care score. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. Once we assessed the quantity of nursing care, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 93.04511 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility had 3.05 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this admittedly wasn't as impressive as some of its other scores in this category, this figure may be skewed for some facilities due to the medical complexity of patients.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category. We scrutinized the levels of nurses working for the nursing home, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses spent with patients, in calculating our rating in this category. This particular nursing home provided 4.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which was among the highest totals we found. Finally, we also looked at nursing quality measures in determining our nursing scores. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as good measures of the caliber of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Short-term Care Quality
In our final category, we gave this facility an A+ for its short-term care rating. This topped off a very impressive report card. Our short-term care ratings are probably most critical for individuals needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes not only nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. The final metric we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. This place was above average in this area with 51 percent of its patients returning home.
