Facility Inspections
This nursing home's overall score was propped up by the fact that it has earned favorable health inspections in recent years. We gave them a strong score in this category, with a B+. This is a notably better score than the facility's overall score. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are quite minor. While this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's long-term care score turns out to be one of its better features. The facility was awarded a B- in this category. In the area of long-term care, we assess the quantity of services provided by a facility, rather than more sophisticated services. After we finished assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. We were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 42.71357 percent of its patients for pneumonia. On a more positive note, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
Another strength of this facility is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an impressive grade of D. Our nursing grade analyzes the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This facility performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we looked at is short-term care, which was a weak spot for this facility. We gave this facility a grade of D in our short-term care category. Short-term care ratings are crucial for patients needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we discovered that this place provides substantially less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than a typical nursing home. The last datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics sunk this nursing home's short-term care score.
