Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Even though we gave this nursing home a terrible overall score, we gave it a grade of C for short-term care. In computing our short-term care scores, we assess a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This area is generally a useful assessment of a facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. This nursing home provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is usually a favorable sign. Finally, we looked at the number of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 4.4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below the national average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: C

This facility didn't perform terribly in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a C for that category. Other aspects of its profile were the source of its abysmal overall score. Inspection ratings are based on several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key thing to look for on these reports. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received some government fines in recent years.

Nurse Quality

This facility's next best category was nursing, but even there it received a grade of just D. This is still a well below average grade. Our nursing rating focuses on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the number of hours spent with residents. This place averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This number is significantly below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This facility performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Long-term Care Quality

The final area we rated is long-term care. We gave it an abysmal F for this category, which is a very poor score. Facilities that do not fare well in this category often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in a few of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. Candidly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated 90 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is quite a few points lower than what we were hoping for. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
