Registered Staff Hours
While this place's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it performed well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that category, which is one of our better scores. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. It is generally best to avoid facilities that have too many deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the area of long-term care, this nursing home received just a D in that area. Unfortunately, this ended up being its second best grade. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated just 80.4878 percent of its residents, which is quite a bit lower than we expected. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best score in this category.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility wound up receiving a rock-bottom score in our short-term care area. It was given a lowly F in this category. In the area of short-term care, we seek to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 5.2 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
The last area we analyzed is nursing, in which this nursing home received an abysmal score in this area as well. Unfortunately, we gave it an F in this category, which is definitely somewhat alarming. Nursing ratings are largely tied to a facility's nurse staffing. This place provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing scores. This facility fared well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.
