Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also found that this nursing home excelled in our long-term care rating. We gave them an A+ in this area. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are well cared for. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 96.644295 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is more than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition, this facility also earned a nearly flawless government inspection report. As a result, it earned one of our best grades in that area with a score of A. Our inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category usually have very few severe deficiencies. This place was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This indicates that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. Nursing scores are based in large part on quality and quantity of nursing care. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last category we looked at is short-term care, in which this nursing home received a grade of C. This was this nursing home's least impressive category. This is still nothing to be ashamed of. With our short-term care assessment, we attempt to craft a fair measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at the nursing home's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.7 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.
