Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We gave them an A in this category. Arguably the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

We also awarded this facility a strong score in long-term care. This nursing home received a grade of B+ in this category, which is one of our more favorable scores. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 97.04642 percent of its patients, which is better than most nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing grade. In fact, we gave this facility an impressive grade of D. Our nursing rating assesses the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This facility performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last category we graded is short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this category, which is a poor score. This is certainly a major disappointment. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to score a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to provide quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Based on its grade in this category, we were not surprised to discover that this place is well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we looked at. Honestly, this was about what we expected to find. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 4.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
