Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home's best category grade came in the area of long-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of B. It actually outperformed most facilities in this category. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. One of the factors we considered after nurse's aid hours was vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 99.04762 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a great way to minimize unnecessary deaths for the senior population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

We also awarded this facility a B- for our inspections rating. This is better than its overall grade. Inspection ratings are tied to several pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these reports. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to resident safety. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home was given its next most favorable category grade in the category of short-term care. We gave this facility a B- in this category, which is an acceptable grade. In our short-term care category, we seek to create a valuable gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze the facility's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Unfortunately, this facility was below average in terms of its level of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The final measure we looked at in this area is the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 5.3 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

This facility's worst area is nursing, which is the last category we scored. For this area, we awarded this facility a grade of just D. The nursing grade weighs numerous data points. The most important one is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This particular nursing home offered a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This figure is well below the national average. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this facility also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These scores hurt this facility's nursing rating significantly.
