Facility Inspections

Grade: C

Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a C for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. Our inspection grades are tied to pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these reports. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to the well being of residents. This place was assessed 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were in categories G through L. This indicates it avoided the more serious categories of deficiencies. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received some government fines in recent years.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

We were also surprised to find that this facility received a decent nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of C in that category. Nursing scores are largely based on a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, nursing grades also consider quality-based metrics, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is often a good indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Many falls can be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses aids to assist its patients.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this nursing home's third best score is long-term care. However, with a grade of D in this category, it still performed somewhat poorly. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 82.629105 percent of its residents. This is many points lower than what we were hoping for. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last category we scored was short-term care, which ended up being a weak spot for this facility. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in our short-term care category. In determining our short-term care scores, we scrutinize the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This grade is typically a fair assessment of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. As you might expect, we found that this place offers significantly less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical facility. The last datapoint we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics doomed this nursing home's short-term care grade.
