Long-term Care Quality
We also found that this nursing home excelled in our long-term care rating. We awarded them an A+ in this category. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. On top of providing elite levels of nursing care and other staffing, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 99.15254 percent of its residents. This figure is also significantly better than most nursing homes. The last datapoint we looked at was its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.78 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this admittedly wasn't as favorable as most of its other scores in this area, this number may be skewed for some facilities due to the preexisting medical conditions of patients.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this facility also earned a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that category with a score of A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite minor. This place was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning the page to our third area, we gave this nursing home a grade of A- for its short-term care score. This is a first-rate grade. In computing our short-term care grades, we assess a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This rating is generally a solid measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
In our last category, we gave this facility a grade of A for its nursing rating. This wrapped up a very impressive report card. The nursing rating features a variety of factors. The most important one is the quantity of hours nurses spent with patients. This nursing home provided 5 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which was among the higher totals we found. Lastly, we also looked at nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these data points as reliable measures of the caliber of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
