Long-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ in the area of long-term care. If you are seeking anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care grades. This nursing home's vaccination records lagged a bit behind some of its other statistics in this area, such as its nursing hours data. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 90.71038 percent of its residents. We would love to see some improvement in this area in the future. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this place had 3.22 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this wasn't as favorable as some of its other scores in this area, this number can be skewed for some facilities due to the medical complexity of patients.
Facility Inspections
This facility has earned near flawless government inspections recently. We gave them an A in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite insignificant. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. In computing our nursing scores, we look at both nursing hours and the training levels of those nurses. This place offers a very impressive 4.2 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is among the highest totals in the state. Lastly, this place also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. For example, it performed as well as any facility Arkansas in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We look at these areas as good measures of the caliber of nursing care provided.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we graded was short-term care. This facility was awarded an impressive nursing score in our assessment, with a grade of B. Although this is not nearly as elite as some of its other grades, this is still one of our more favorable grades in this area. With our short-term care grade, we seek to create a sound measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at a facility's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The final item we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. It was above average in this area with 51.4 percent of its residents returning home.
