Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Although we gave this facility an abysmal overall score, we awarded it a B- for our nursing rating. Nursing grades are mostly tied to a facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a somewhat uninspiring figure which is well below average. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a reliable indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We were also pleasantly surprised to find that this nursing home earned a decent short-term care rating this year. We gave it a C in that category. In forming these short-term care grades, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to devise a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The final datapoint we considered in this category is the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that just 3.5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Tragically, this facility received an F for its long-term care grade. For residents in need of a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home administered the vaccine to 98.4127 percent of its residents, which is an above average percentage. To our surprise, this place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

In the final category of inspections, this facility really did not fare well. It received an F in our inspection rating. This happens to be our most heavily weighted category in our overall grading system. When a place has this poor of an inspection score, you should look for severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to patient safety. This facility was hit with 6 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only positive thing we found is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they caused a risk to patient safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
