Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To go along with its relatively modest overall grade, we gave this nursing home an A for our inspections rating. This grade is far more impressive than the facility's overall rating. Arguably the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this category most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In that category, we awarded this facility an B. In computing a facility's nursing score, we assess the number of hours nurses are caring for patients as well as the skill levels of the nurses. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next most favorable category was short-term care. We gave it a B- in this area. This is basically a middle of the road score in this area. Short-term care grades are often employed to assess a facility's rehabilitation services To provide high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients that eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually well below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to the fourth category, we gave this nursing home a D in the area of long-term care. This is the nursing home's weakest category score. Of course, this category pulled down the facility's overall grade a bit. For prospective residents in need of a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. We were pleased to find that this nursing home vaccinated 97.46835 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
