Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ in the area of long-term care. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 95.54794 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is often a life or death health condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility doesn't leave this to chance. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

This nursing home also earned an A+ inspection score, making it one of the few facilities to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. This grade is based on the nursing home's inspection reports. An A+ in this area is one of the biggest complements we can pay to a facility. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively minor. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home is also above average in the category of short-term care, where it received a grade of B+. It outpaced most facilities in this category. Our short-term care scores are presumably more critical for those in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This means not merely nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, we were not able to find information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The final datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 6.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The final category we rated is nursing. We gave this nursing home an acceptable grade in this area, with a C. Although this was not as dominant as a few of its other scores, it is still a middle of the pack score. There are several factors within this category. Most of the criteria reflect nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures. Although this facility got docked a bit for nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of these quality measures. With less than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this area. This is typically an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning a resident even once per day.
