Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home's long-term care score was better than its overall grade. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B for its long-term care grade. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. One of the criteria we considered after nursing hours is vaccinations. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. This is a great way to minimize negative health outcomes for the aged 65 and up population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

This facility also earned favorable inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better scores in that category, with a B. Our inspection ratings are based on items found on the a nursing home's recent government inspections. Facilities that score well in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This place was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies an immediate risk to resident health or safety. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of C. We looked at the skill-level of nurses working for the facility, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses were with patients, in computing our score in this category. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a low total compared to most nursing homes. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It scored well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The final area we scored was short-term care, which ended up being this nursing home's worst area. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in that category. Our short-term care scores are likely more important for residents requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. With a grade this poor for this area, we were not shocked to learn this facility was well below average in several staffing figures we looked at. The facility offered far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the number of residents that ultimately returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
