Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
While we gave this nursing home a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of B- for short-term care. Short-term care ratings are important for residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a broad scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. We found that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 5.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below average.
Nurse Quality
We were also surprised to find that this facility received a decent nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of C in that category. In computing a nursing home's nursing rating, we consider the number of hours nurses are with patients and the levels of training of those nurses. This nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This figure is far below the national average. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically a reliable indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place.

Facility Inspections
Unfortunately, this facility didn't receive glowing inspections in recent years. We gave it a grade of just D for our inspections rating. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. You should be most cautious when considering a facility that has severe deficiencies on its inspection reports. This particular facility was assessed 5 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only positive thing we can say is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they posed a risk to patient safety or health. Finally, we also would like to point out that this nursing home was assessed large government fines in recent years exceeding $50,000. This usually indicates that government inspectors became fed up after several years of failed government inspections.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the final category, this facility did not fare well in this category either. With a very poor grade of F in long-term care, this is about as terrible as it gets. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it typically means the nursing home didn't perform well in our measures relating to patient care. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 58.726414 percent of its residents. This is many points less than what we were hoping for. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
