Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it actually earned a very impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our highest grades in that area with an A-. Inspection scores are based on many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid nursing homes with severe deficiencies linked to endangerment of patients. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its nursing grade, which was actually one of its better category grades. Our nursing grade features a host of subcategories. The most heavily weighted factor is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This place provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is an alarmingly low total. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these statistics to be measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Tragically, this facility received an F for its short-term care grade. Short-term care grades are commonly used to measure a facility's performance with rehabilitation In order to provide highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. With a score of this caliber in this area, we weren't shocked to learn that this place was well below average in multiple staffing figures we looked at. The nursing home offered far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 2.7 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last area we assessed is long-term care. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this area, which is a bottom of the barrel score. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 97.2 percent of its patients, which is higher than the average nursing home. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
