Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this place turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it earned an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this very important category. Inspection grades weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this area typically have few severe deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This facility also received an A+ for its long-term care grade. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are kept in good health. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A. Nursing grades are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In the final area, this facility also was awarded an impressive short-term care grade, with an A. This completed a first-rate profile. Short-term care grades are often used to gauge a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to provide better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last measure we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.
