Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving a strong overall grade, this nursing home also earned first-rate government inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our higher grades in this area, with an A+. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This tells you CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also was awarded a strong long-term care score. Indeed, we gave it an above average score of B+ in this category. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B. In determining a nursing home's nursing rating, we weigh the amount of time nurses are caring for residents and the level of skill of the nurses. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Turning to our fourth category, this nursing home received a respectable short-term care score of C. Our short-term care scores are crucial for individuals seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients that were able to return home from this facility. We found that 4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below average.
