In addition to being a first rate facility overall, this nursing home excelled in our inspections category, where it received an A+. Very few nursing homes fared as well in this category. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. This nursing home was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate threat to patient safety or health. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last measure we assessed in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 6.4 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Adding to its fine resume, this facility also was given a dominant long-term care score, with a score of A. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. After assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 88.983055 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is a bit less than we expected but still a decent percentage. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

The final category we rated was nursing. This facility was given a better than average nursing grade this year, with a B-. Although this wasn't as impressive as some of its other category grades, this is still a decent score for this area. Nursing ratings are based in large part on quality and quantity of nursing care. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, we also baked a few quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. This place was relatively weak in two of the major areas we look at, with below average scores for minimizing its patients' major falls and pressure ulcers.
