Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

On top of faring well overall, this facility earned an excellent short-term care grade. In fact, we gave it an A in that area. In determining our short-term care scores, we look at the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This grade is frequently a meaningful assessment of the nursing home's rehabilitation. We were not able to track down information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The final metric we looked at in this area is the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that 6.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also want to note the fact that this facility received a strong score of A- in our long-term care area. For prospective residents looking for a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 91.83674 percent of its patients. This is somewhat less than we were hoping for but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our inspections rating. Inspection scores weigh several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area generally have very few severe deficiencies. Unfortunately, it does not look like we were able to find information about this nursing home's deficiencies. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

In our final area, this facility also was given an excellent nursing grade, with a grade of B+. This finished off a first-rate report card. Our nursing rating is primarily associated with a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of moving patients more frequently.
