Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also received a dominant long-term care grade. This actually ended up being this nursing home's second best category grade. In that category, this facility received a grade of A-. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in this category it is usually a good sign for resident care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. This is a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the aged 65 and up population. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. While it had 1.92 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted metric was better than most facilities since it had some more complex patients.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B+ for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. Our nursing rating analyzes quite a few subcategories, however, the most important one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provided 4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Approximately one quarter of that care was provided by registered nurses, which are among the most highly skilled nurses. Both of these figures easily exceed the national average. Finally, this place also performed well in several of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the percentage of its patients suffering falls leading to serious injury, this nursing home performed better than the national average.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we looked at is short-term care, where this facility was given a B+. This wrapped up a very strong profile. Very few facilities earned a B+ or better in in each area we assessed. Our short-term care scores are arguably most important for patients needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional highly-skilled nursing services. This includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 38.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
