Facility Inspections
To pair with its decent overall score, we awarded this facility an A for our inspections rating. This is far better than its overall score. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being quite minor. While this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also received a strong score in our long-term care category. We awarded this nursing home an above average grade of B+ in this area. When facilities receive this kind of score in long-term care it is a good sign for resident care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. One of the factors we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 98.13084 percent of its residents. This is a reliable method to avoid unnecessary deaths for the senior population. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this place had 2.4 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
Another strength of this facility is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an impressive grade of D. We analyzed the licensure of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the number of hours the nurses were with patients, in calculating our grade in this category. This nursing home provides 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is slightly below average. To go along with its low total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home had poor scores in many of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing grades. For starters, we looked at the percent of residents having falls which led to major injury. This place was at more than 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's least impressive area was short-term care, which is the last area we looked at. It received an F for this category. Despite several respectable grades in other categories, this score is still disappointing so we would like to to point it out. In determining these short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to create a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. As you might expect, we found that this nursing home offers significantly less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than a typical facility. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 28.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
