While we gave this facility a bad overall grade, we actually gave it a fairly respectable score in the area of inspections, where we gave it a B-. This was better than its other category grades. We would argue that one of the most important factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially look at the severity of those deficiencies. While this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B-. The nursing grade assesses several components, but the main one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. According to CMS records, this facility averaged 4.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Keep in mind that when we calculate our nursing ratings, we add more weight to hours performed by nurses with a higher level of training. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this statistic.

Short-term Care Quality

We also awarded this facility a solid grade in the category of short-term care, with a grade of B-. Our short-term care scores are likely more meaningful for patients requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically requires more skilled nursing. This includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. This nursing home is respectable both in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed most facilities in this area with 67.4 percent of its residents returning home. This really bolstered its score in this category.

Long-term Care Quality

The next area we assessed is long-term care. We awarded it a B- in that category. This is a perfectly acceptable grade in this area. In forming our long-term care ratings, we quantify the nursing home's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. One of the data points we considered after nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Fortunately, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.77676 percent of its patients. This place also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.7 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
