Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are quite insignificant. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Adding to its high-end assessments in other areas, we awarded this facility a grade of A for our short-term care rating. In the category of short-term care, we strive to assess measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. It does not look like this facility submitted data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The last item we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 6.6 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality
We also would like to emphasize the fact that this nursing home received a superb grade of A- in our long-term care category. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it typically means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. After we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a life threatening illness for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
The last area we analyzed was nursing. This facility was awarded a very good nursing score this year, with a grade of B. Although this is not as strong as several of its other scores, this is nevertheless one of the stronger scores for that area. Our nursing score analyzes the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of training of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as good measures of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
