Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
Although we did not rate this facility well overall, we want to point out its decent grade of B- in the category of nursing. Nursing scores are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality measures. While this facility got docked a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of these quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this area. This is often an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a system of moving residents more often.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's second highest area is its short-term care grade, where it was awarded a grade of B-. In computing our short-term care grades, we look at the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This area is typically a fair measure of the facility's rehabilitation. We were surprised to find that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Long-term Care Quality
The third highest area we gave this facility in any category came in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. This place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Facility Inspections
The last category we looked at was inspections. This ended up being this nursing home's weakest link. We gave it just a D in this area. Since this data is collected by independent government inspectors, we weight it heavily in our assessment. One of the more significant factors in assessing inspection reports is deficiencies. We recommend you scrutinize the severity of the deficiencies. This particular nursing home had 2 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they posed a threat to resident safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
