Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being an elite facility overall, this nursing home also performed well in our inspections category, where it earned a grade of A+. Few places fared as well in this area. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category tend to have few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. This proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an A. We assessed the licensure of nurses working for the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses spent with patients, in determining our score in this area. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of moving a patient even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, this facility also was awarded favorable short-term care grades in our assessment. Indeed, we awarded it one of our higher scores in that category, with a score of B. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to score a nursing home's rehabilitation services To have highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 4.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final category we scored is long-term care. We awarded this nursing home a decent score in that category, with a B-. Even though this wasn't as strong as many of this nursing home's other scores, it is nevertheless nothing to be ashamed of. In calculating our long-term care scores, we analyze the facility's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 98.958336 percent of its residents. This facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
