Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its high-end profile, this nursing home also received a dominant short-term care score, with a score of A. In crafting these short-term care scores, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to formulate a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. The last item we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in New Hampshire in this area with 63.8 percent of its residents returning home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also was dominant in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a score of A-. Not many nursing homes fared better in this area. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are kept in good health. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 99.579834 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.94 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the last category, this facility also received a first-rate nursing rating, with a grade of B+. This finished off a very strong report card. There are a variety of factors within this grade. Most of these data points relate to staffing levels. This nursing home provides 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This place fared well in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this facility performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided with better nursing care.
